wrong

/ is the root directory
/root is the home directory of root

/myfolder is a directory on the root directory
/root/myfolder is a directory in the home directory of root

Hi and welcome to LQ.

It might get a bit confusing due to the fact that root is used in two meanings:

/ - this is the root directory of your filesystem
root - name of the superuser account on a system

So the /root is the home directory of user 'root' while /myfolder is a subdirectory of the root directory.

Hope it makes sense.
