a question about where repos should be stored in centos 7

i read that the preferred way to store repos is in the
/etc/yum.repos.d directory opposed to the yum.conf file

is there a good reason for this?

is it just uniform?

Yes that's the cleaner, more standard way. I didn't even realize repos COULD be put in /etc/yum.conf until I looked at the comments.
