A question about network printer...

I have an Okidata C5200n network printer. I'd like to share my printer over the network. Just testing the waters, but say I wanted my dad back home (in another city) to be able to add my printer to his printers that he can print from in windows. So basically which port would I have to setup port forwarding(PAT) on my gateway/router? Port 631? If so, is there a way I can setup authentication? And what types are available. What do people normally do in this case? I mean anybody could just bruteforce my printer's site on port 631.

I'd stand up a VPN or an ssh tunnel w/ your dad.

Cheers,

Most people would email it.

Aside from that; you might want to consider setting up IPP for your printer, then locking it down with SSLv3.
Then all you would have to do is get your dad to load an SSL certificate into his browser, and *BAM*. Should work;
