A question about iso

I have done this in the past but too many years ago.
Actually I'm suprized its not a sticky.
I down loaded mandriva iso on to an XP box and now what?
If memory serves need a special burning software to make cd to load into the PC. Need some good pointers of how to. Thanks all

Any CD burning program works. A good free (as in beer) one is CDBurnerXP Pro. Or you might already have Roxio, Sonic Recordnow, or Nero...

Anyway, then what you do is find the "Burn From Image" option (usually something like File -> Burn From Image. Select the *.iso file and it should go.

If you explore the created CD in Windows, you should see a bunch of files. If you only see a single *.iso file, you just created a regular data CD and it won't work.

Most computers I use already have either Roxio or Nero. If you have those, my advice is ignore them and use ImgBurn instead.

In ImgBurn the right option is:
Write image file to disc.
See the top left in the first screen shot at

The wrong choice is Write files/folders to disc. (the top right in the same screen shot).

Meaning you made the wrong choice of "image" vs. "files/folders", which must be very easy to do by accident in Nero or Roxio, because it is a common mistake.

Okay while waiting for an answer I went to the Ubuntu site and down loaded Ubuntu and they had a link to infrarecorder, so I did that. Ubuntu didn't finish asking the 7 questions, and never even loaded on the hard drive well I don't think anyway, since it tried to boot into windows. Or is that how it is supposed to work? So now I'll see what happens with mandriva.
