Question A problem in working with "MAKEE" software.

Hello,

After installing MAKEE I tried to check it by downloading the required
raw data from HIRES data archive. I made everything ready then
I execute MAKEE and it stoped with following error.

The data I selected is for the quasar Q2206-199 which was used in MAKEE
instruction help in following website and I downloaded the same data:

http://www2.keck.hawaii.edu/inst/hir..._Cookbook.html

This is the error in log file:

*************
WARNING: EE_FindPeaks: difference between first 2 orders too small [ 16.53619]
WARNING: TRY EE_FindPeaks_Try2()...
ERROR: EE_FindPeaks_Try2: difference between first 2 orders too small [ 16.53619]
*************
I have no idea how to fix this error.

Would it be possible for someone to help me in this matter?

With best regards,
Hassan

Since this is quite a specialist piece of software, you're likely to get more help from people in the field.

Edit: I see you're also a PhD student.. is your work related to quasars?

Dear Nylex,

Thanks for your reply.

As you guessed, my PhD thesis is about quasar absorption systems.
I also sent an email to the man who wrote this code but I got no
reply from him therefore I came here as the last resort.

With best regards,
Hassan

I know this is an old thread, but in searching for this specific Makee error, I received only this result. It will be useful for future users to have a correct reply to the OP:

# 1) If you find errors:

# In the case of obtaining an Order Problem (such as "EE_FindPeaks_Try2: difference between first 2 orders too small [ nn.ddddddd]", open the makee.script, copy all the makee line commands that give a problem in a new makee.script2 and, at the end of each line, add the parameter sl=X where X is =nn. For example, if you got that the orders were too small [19.238273], choose sl=19.

emacs makee.script2
source makee.script2 &

# Recheck the errors and warnings:

egrep -i error *.log
egrep -i warning *.log

If your initial value of sl does not work, try approximating to more decimal places. For example, if sl=19 fails, try sl=19.2.

Cheers.

First of all, I think Ubuntu 8.04 is probably unsupported now, so you'd be wise to upgrade to a more recent version.

Also, can you post the first error please? That's usually the biggest hint as to what's going wrong.

Hi,

Thank you for your msg. I tried unsuccessfully to install MAKEE in Ubuntu 10.04, the g77 compiler that are no loner supported on this were partly to blame. I tried changing installing just the g77 gcc compilers but that did not work so I decided to go with Hardy which works with g77.

This is the first part of the error msg.

Are you sure that's the first part? It's not really easy to tell what's going on, but perhaps a permissions problem. Since you've put the source in /usr/local/src, are you running make with sudo?
