A problem I don't know how to name

I use Fedora 9 x86-64 I got the 3D desktop working last night. since I can't open a terminal window, Claws mail address book will not open those are the 2 things I have found so far. every other program when it opens my screen flashes to my desktop then back to what I was doing then opens.
Please tell me how to fix this.

Craig

What terminal program are you trying to use? If possible, try an alternative so then you can try launching the two applications from it to see what type of errors you are getting.

I found a compiz fusion icon checked indirect rendering. That seems to have cleared up all my problems could it really be that simple. I hope so cause add remove, yumex, and terminal were unresponsive. everything works now, for the moment till the next reboot.
