A couple of problems left

I have managed to get Linux Mandrake 8.0 installed fine. but have some problems:

1> Can't seem to get my sound card configured. (I have a AC'97 driver running in windows.) Is there one for Linux?
2> I can't access my CD-Rom or CD-Writer due to "Not having the access rights" (even when I have logged in as root).
3> I need to know how to get my Lucent Winmodem to configure is there a driver available for linux?

Help on this would be much appreciated.

1) you need the ALSA sound drivers. just search.. pretty easy to install. work very very well.

3) You need the Lucent LinModem Drivers. I'm running them at the moment. I think version 6 is out now. agaqin, pretty straightforward IF your system is is good shape! mine wasn't and gave me some trouble.. but it's fine once it works...

2) erm... not sure... Can you mount them? 'mount /dev/cdrom' ?
What are the access rights for the mount location? Assuming you're still trying to mount cd's under /mnt show the outpur from 'ls -l /mnt'. If they're not set for at least drwxr--r-- use 'chmod 755 /mnt/cdrom' or whateevr is relevant
