A complete re-start on a messed up net-book...
Okay, a friends net-book has been messed up by a nasty nasty virus- largely irrelevent. My idea is to burn a Linux ISO onto a dvd, wipe the hard drive and just start from scratch with a new and interesting operating system. Any tips, hints and OS reccomendations, let me know. Idiot proof please!!!

You could check the Distro Reviews link on the upper right of this page. Anything on the top 10 at the distrowatch site should work. Depends upon what your friend uses the computer for. You could check this sit:
http://www.linux-netbook.com/linux/distributions it has brief descriptions of a number of systems. I don't have much experience with netbookd as I've only installed PCLinux and Slax on them and they both worked fine. |
No OS is completely idiot-proof, but Ubuntu 10.04 and Mint 9 (which is based on Ubuntu 10.04) are LTS versions, so your friend won't have to upgrade the whole OS quite as often as would be the case if your friend wanted to keep current with Fedora, Mandriva, Suse, or most other popular (and rapidly-changing) distros.
