Question a bunch or problems.

Hi, I'm duel booting Mandrake linux 10.1 2.6.8.1-12mdk and windows 2k SP4 on a AMD machine.

AMD Athlon 3000+ (barton)
Abit nf7-s
1 gig or corairs ram
IDE hard drive as a Sata hard drive (converter{200 gig seagate})
2 80 gig western digital hard drives (one is a MDT hard drive)
1 40 gig western digital hard drive
Radeon 9800 pro 128
shuttle 10X dvd (<- swap in out but the swap bay for hard drives ->)sony 52x48x52 CD-rw

ok let's

1. When I go to install the machine reports on my 40 gig hard drive (hdd) that it's has errors but when I boot into windows a complete scan disk report nothing. so before mandrake 10.1 install I wait about 30 secs on this part.

2. After it passes the hard drive error installation sometimes freezes on loading SATA drivers

3. when I select kernel source from the installation menu it loads source for 2.4 and not 2.6 (fixed this problem)

4. when I install mozilla (from internet) or Ymessenger I can't start X after I shut it down to do something else. Error is something about device isn't present at 2:0:1.

just a few problems tossed at you guys. if you need logs for anyone please give directory and i'll post them.

P.S. nothing is wrong with my XF86Config or xorg.conf file.

Okey dokey.

I'd reccomend getting the latest kernel which will hopefully solve 1 and 2. That would be my first step anyway. As for 4 I'd install Gaim or Kopete as they are at least being developed unlike Yahoo messenger for unix which is years old IIRC. See how you go.
Regards
Chris
