A A One web cam........

[SIZE="4"]Hi everyone. A few months ago I purchased an acer aspire one with linpus (os). Was bought with the intentions of being my contact machine when on the road. For that use the little computer has lived up to my hopes.

I do, however , have one annoying problem I hope someone can provide a solution. While in the "ADD/Remove" mode of the package manager, an individual removed one(1) selection of the presented software items from what was basically a standard out of the box configuration. Our wannabe computer tech was then distracted for a short while and when he returned could not recall what it was he removed. As a result the AA0 has lost some of its webcam functionality. The cam does work in the MSN format of video chat. It does not work as a simple camera, either photographs or video. Additionally, the webcam icon that was present in "Fun" of the home page has disappeared. The only place I can find any evidence of the cam on the computer is when I am shown it is still recognized as a usb device. I have not found any other reference to it or its software.

After all the above, does anyone have any suggestions that could be attempted to recover the icon and the lost functions of the webcam. The best I can imagine is that some software has been totally erased. Would the webcam be totally recovered if the entire system was reloaded via the recover disc?

Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

Tim

Suggestion: fire your tech guy. In the package manager, search for webcam, see whats there. Without being in front of an Acer Aspire One, I couldn't tell you what to install, but yeah- have a search.

Hmm not sure what the default 'camera' app is on the AAO. I use Cheese on my AAO for that 'photbooth' function, but I don't run the default OS. Either way if it's in your repository, cheese should be easy enough to install
