910928 - how to setup samba with user/pass?

hi
after installing samba, i used:
PHP Code:
useradd user1
smbpasswd
-a user1
i prefer the user not to be added to Linux itself, but i had to 'useradd' it so that smbpasswd would not generate an error. i'm not sure whether useradd adds it to the Linux itself. is it the case?
then, when i click on the share in Windows and enter the user&pass it doesn't work. i can't browse the share.
what's the problem?
thx
