7 cds waste, first it works, then it dont.

hi im getting famous asking about burning since its my third thread asking about it...last time i had problem finding out HOW to burn now that i knew how it worked it only worked the first time but then it got busted and i had to burn another one and another one and another one of the same iso(that was knoppix).

Now then i download slackware.iso 9.1 disk 1 and 2 i burned the first disc and it was a huge SUCCESS!! i was very very happy after a couple of tries, but it was very late and i had a test tomorrow school so i couldnt install it that time so i shutted the laptop...next time i started it it wouldnt find the cd...so i burned the disk1 again and again and none of em works...should i download it again or something becuse this is getting very very annoying...i failed red hat, knoppix, fedora project and now slackware!

this is like a punish from god...its like it was a dream when i had a boot running...if u know something share knowledge!!!!

PS: if this aint workin im back to XP just like all other billions of morons...

How are you burning them?

Poetics 05-14-2004 01:13 PM

Could it be that your system isn't finding your CD-Rom either?

Wiz22 05-14-2004 01:13 PM

sry shouldve written that

First i check it with md5sum...it turns ok and it ALWAYS TURNS OK!

second i start me nero and create image, then i double click my iso. whitch is always on my desktop if that helps and then i burn it at 4x speed...becuse thats the only speed i got two cd's working once...

Wiz22 05-14-2004 01:14 PM

Poetics - no BIOS is set on cd-rom and everything is fine there since it DID work...

Wiz22 05-14-2004 01:17 PM

oh and a week or so when i had red hat working i whiped my disk and cleaned everything but didnt bother installing, so its nothing installed on my laptop if it helps..

Wiz22 05-14-2004 01:31 PM

so far havent got answer but this is how it was with slackware yestarday;

it worked fine i got the boot up i found a very good "HOWTO" install site and i even restarted the computer twice yestarday without anything getting wrong...so the next day it all screwed up...no cd was found...as usual...the cd however was INSIDE the cd-rom at all times...is it when im shutting down my computer that its NOT working?? i mean this is crazy!
if nobody knows then i know my next move will be anti-linux :( :( :(

Wiz22 05-14-2004 01:43 PM

OH OH maby i found the problem!! maby its the md5sum thingy! i just saw in my map that on my slackware-9.1-install-d1.iso on 640mb had another slackware-9.1-install-d1 on 1 kb...could this be any help??? this is my last day trying to get linux im popping every information i know!

pepsi 05-14-2004 01:56 PM

i sort of had you problem to fix it i just denloaded the iso from different servers on different dates, and used different types of media, i eventually got debian, fedora, and mandrake to work by this method

Wiz22 05-14-2004 02:01 PM

ill try your method there pepsi thx....more ideas are always welcome :)

sirpimpsalot 05-14-2004 03:06 PM

are you actually powering off, or just restarting when you try to boot to the cd? are you pressing F12 (or whatever it is on your laptop) to invoke the boot menu (allows you to choose cd, hdd, floppy, etc)?

all the dell's I use at work require both to sucessfully boot to a cd...

Mega Man X 05-14-2004 03:49 PM

If it works in one day, and it does not work in another day with the same disks (and considering the amount of disks you've tried) the only thing I can think about is that you have a hardware problem. Either dirty lens or something more serious...

pepsi 05-14-2004 11:32 PM

as long as you pressing the right bottons here what could be the problem
a) dirty lens check to see if other cds work
b) bad media cheack out other types of blanc cds
C) bad software for burning try reinstalling or downloading a copy of roxio
d) bad battery for cmos
e) system can't boot from cd try booting from floppies
f) broken cd drive try a external drive of try booting from cd on another comp. i think you said you had a dell laptop and if you do the dvd/cd roms suck the world should use tough books
and i'm done
