64 bit rhel 6.0 does not support usb 3.0
 

hi everybody,
iam using RHEL 6.0 on my friend machine but problem is in 64 bit rhel 6.0 doesnot support usb 3.0 . how can i able to use usb 3.0 in rhel 64 bits can anybody guide me in.. any kinds of ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

look xhci or xhci_hcd kernel module that needs to be load into linux for 3.0 support in rhel 6

else update to rhel6.2

after inserting usb 3.0 device into system, check with lsmod commands that what are the other modules are loaded into linux else find this module and load with modprobe command

Also consider contacting Red Hat for their assistance. After all, you are paying for support aren't you?

jefro, i was not paying to Red Hat so what is the alternative idea.

For the non-paying...

If you are not to pay for support and updates from Red Hat, you can install either a copy of CentOS or Scientific Linux.

They are clones of Red Hat. Do you in fact need Red Hat or its like or did you just think of giving it a ride? There are many other distributions with large and helpful user communities.

M old machine blew up as a result of the power problems related to Sandy. So I just got a new x86_64 machine with a USB3 port. I installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.3 (Santiago) on it. I plugged a WD Passport drive into the USB3 socket and it did not seem to work.

It may be that release 6.3 has resolved the problems of earlier posters, so more recent readers of this thread may take heart.

Fixing it equired writing a label onto the partition to be used (and also formatting that partition (to ext4)). Then when I plugged the unit into the USB3 port, a warning box popped up complaining it did not know how to mount that. But, in fact, it did mount and another box popped up showing me the contents of the dive. It mounted the dive on /media/label.

@JeanDavid, The problem which you wrote here is regarding to mount problem . This thread is moreover to detect a usb 3.0 enabled Device not to mount.

and yes, there should be a filesystem in disk drive to mount it.
