Just found the download.intel site. Check the drivers under linux - just linux...they have a RH9 driver there. don't know the changes from RH8, but it's worth a build and test.

Going back to the very first question, I have the same error message and I am running Mandrake 9.1. I don't understand how to install the stuff for linux off the CD that came with it. It found my printer, scanner, all my drives just fine but nothing on this modem. If I find autoconf.h how do I install it? I can copy it onto a zip drive and then reboot into Mandrake and then what. I keep getting I don't have permission to do certain things even though I open a console and type SU and then a password.

This may help...you may need to install the kernel source onto your installation. I used to have the same problem with the exact same modem with Mandrake 9.1...installing the kernel source solved the problem.

driver found

hey bison;

I have the most current driver for this offa intel, the driver isn't the problem.
I saw the other threads too... thanx.

The driver installs fine on some distributions of redhat 9 and not others. My distribution is just not complete. Really the answer is to find a complete distribution.

note: to all those who say "install a hardware modem" ... don't be dumb! this problem is the tip of the iceberg - and it should effect ANY 3rd party driver I try to build, including my own. So I want it fixed. And so should anyone who wants to try development.

Anyway -
Installing the kernel source as suggested by the error ms dosn't help... the required directory structure is still absent. If anyone knows which rpm has the missing bits, please speak up.
Simon
