3ddesktop fails but other opengl apps work on ubuntu system
I'm running ubuntu warty warthog with fluxbox (though i get the same problem if try using kde or gnome) and heres the deal:
I hooked up a second monitor the the dvi port on my geforce4 ti4200 card, and got both screensworking using the twin view option in the nvidia driver. Everything worked great, quick and easy set up. Then I installed the 3ddesktop package, which had some quirks in the command syntax, but worked fine. However, my brother needed the monitor back that I "borrowed" from him, and when I comment out the twinview and other lines I had in my x86 config file to go back to one monitor, I find 3ddesktop won't work. other open gl programs seem to work, and all my other apps run fine, but not 3ddesktop. I tried running dpkg-reconfigure on it and tried reinstalling it but nothing worked. I hooked the monitor back up and switched to twin view again and its working now.
What happens is when I start the daemon (3ddeskd) the screen clicks and goes blank for a second and then comes back (like its switching resolution), or does that 4 times or so if I use the aquire option. Then if I run the switcher, (3ddesk), the screen does the flashing thing again, displaying the desktops in 3d, and I can switch through them, but there are weird lines moving up and down the screen, and when I select a desktop, sometimes it brings the image of the desktop up to fill the whole screen without returning me to the real desktop, so I'm stuck looking at a screenshot of my programs.
Thanks for any insight into this mess in advance!
