3c501 could not find the device eth0, delaying initaialization.

I installed my red hat version 5.1 and tried to configure the network with the command system-config-network. But I am not able to activate the lan adapter eth0. it prompts the error message "3c501 could not find the device etho, delaying intialization" . I also tried the various ways to resolve the issue as per the instructions in linuxquestion.org but the issue is not resolved. Can anybody please suggest me on how to resolve the issue. If there is ant package that is to be installed. If so please let me know the procedure to install the package as well. i am new to RH and hope you ll help me to resolve the issue.

You need to post the output of the command 'lspci' and 'lsmod' both as root. lspci should show what card you are trying to get working. lsmod will show what modules are loaded.

While you are at it, please also post the output from 'ifconfig' once again as root user. This will show any configured interfaces.

Once we have some idea what we are working with then we can work on configuring it.

Could you post information in the router you connect to? Or modem? DHCP yes of no etc. This will save time and posting later.
