3 General Questions

1. NTFS... I finally got all the mounting stuff done, but I cannot WRITE!? If I will never be able to write to NTFS, at least not easily I guess, should I formate the drive I want to write to (it's not Windows or Linux, but I wanted it to be a shared drive) as FAT32? As in, will they both be able to read it? Will it be slower/worse on either?

2. smartd... WHAT IS IT? It fails to start and stop everytime I startup or reboot my computer.

3. ATI Drivers... I downloaded/installed the package, so now how do I access it to change resolutions and enable multiple monitors and actually get the drivers WORKING since right now I have no 3D acceleration?

1) FAT32 is readable and writable by both Windows and Linux, whereas NTFS is not.

2) Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (SMART) Daemon. That's what RHEL calls it.

3) Which distribution are you using?

1. But is it slower or in any way worse?
2. Why is it failing?
3. Fedora Core 3 64bit, 9800pro

you there?

1) No, it should be the same if you are just using it as a shared drive. It doesn't matter anyways, you are simply not going to get NTFS working reliably.

2) Report it as a bug to Fedora Core, or just disable it.

3) Try checking out ATI's FAQs and their other resources. Also check out FedoraFAQ.

4) Please don't bump your thread without waiting 24 hours. I was having supper :p
