Cool 2 gigabyte /tmp directory..ok to delete contents

My /tmp directory is 2 gigs is it similar to windows, in that there is nothing vital in this directory? I'd like to make a little space on my hard drive can I delete the contents safely? Thanks for any help.

/tmp should be emptied when the computer is rebooted. So you could reboot, and it will be emptied.

I don't know if any processes you may have running have stuff in /tmp, so perhaps it is best not to delete the contents of /tmp while the computer is running.

If you want to though:
Code:
rm -fr /tmp/*
I hope this helps
