Unhappy 1st Ubuntu installation

I just installed Ubuntu without any major headaches, but after the system settings loading screen i get a sentence that says loading Gnome manger, and after that i get a blanck screen(black screen)

i also noticed a few errors during the settings loading screen
1. cant load shpchp missing kernel or user driver.
2. cant load pciehp missing kernel or driver
3. using yenta instead of i823365 failed.

i have one computer that has 2 HHD when i boot from the one that i am trying to install from i disconnect the XP HDD and i also disconnect from the network.

reply to Marghorp i disconnect the XP drive and network because i do not know how to configure Linux to an MS network. but i have now connected both drives on the same channel.
