1 FPS only!

Hi there;

I have almost finished fixing up linux, there is just one slight problem.

That problem is whenever I try to play a 3d game like ArmageTron I only get a FPS rate of 1! I know it's not because my video card is bad because when I play Counter-Strike in Windows my fps is around 20. I have a SiS 630 integrated graphics card and am using Mandrake 10.0.

Also is there a way I can remove the password on my BIOS because my stupid computer manufacturer put a password on BIOS and now I can't access it!

Thanks for all the help you have given me!

To remove the bios password you must move a jumper on your motherboard. It should be labelled pretty clearly.

Open up your case and look for the battery, remove it for a few seconds, or look for a jumper near it. Switch the jumper over for a few seconds. Thsi will RESET ALL SETTINGS. 20FPS for CS is horible. I don't know much about linux myself, but I am guessing that the drivers for your video are crap, add to that a crap GPU and your getting 1 FPS :p

I'd say you don't have 3D acceleration set up for you card in linux... I don't even knoe if it's possible with the Sis 630 - I know my 6263 was a dog (so I gave it away) but maybe they have improved...

As said, it doesn't sound all that hot in windows with CS either :(

Ya well 20 fps is kind of better than only 1 fps. Anyways It seems that my stupid computer manufacturer ripped me off once again. My on-board graphics setting was at 8 mb!!! 8mb!!! So I changed it to 32 mb and everything is working smoothly!

Also now my final question is this. When I cleared the CMOS RAM the Mandrake 10.0 boot loader disappeared! Can you tell me how to reinstall it?

*EDIT* LOL! it seems now on linux my FPS is at 60!!! ahahahahah. Thats one more reason why Linux own all! *EDIT*

yea thats all high and mighty, but my question is, How do I reinstall the bootloader? Do I have to reinstall Mandrake 10.0 again?

That would suck....

No, you don't have to re-install to re-install the bootloader.
You need to boot the first install cd - CD1. When you get to the welcome/install prompt, press F1. You'll get a whole screen of text and a boot> prompt at the bottom of the screen. At that boot prompt type: rescue
This will start the rescue program and you'll be able to follow it through and re-install your bootloader.
