You shouldn't have had to compile drivers. The ones that ship
with Slacks xorg are completely adequate. As for the resolution:
how much RAM have you allotted to the video card in your machines
BIOS? And which config file does the x-server log say it's using?

it uses the /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and the videocard uses 8MB ram but i think the system crashes if i raise it, slackware is already using 500 MB Ram
