[LMDE] Need to shut off internal speaker!

I just installed Linux Mint Debian Edition on my laptop last night and on boot up and shut down I receive very loud system beeps from the internal speaker. I tried black list the speaker by creating a file "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" with the lines:

Code:

blacklist pcspkr
blacklist snd_pcsp

This did nothing to solve my problem. I need to shut this off because I have to use my laptop for university in a few hours and can't have it beeping throughout the lecture... :S

Thanks in advance for any help :)

It's coming through the soundcard. Run alsamixer as root and turn it down there.
