Unhappy [Help] Debian 5.0 loads black screen

hello forum

I have a bad problem with debian 5.0 .
I have installed it all right with no fail or error and when it boots,i just see a black screen with nothing else.

My graphic card : Nvidia 9500M gs.

I tried ubuntu, fodero but both of them were same after installing debian (Before i didn't have this problem)

Sorry for lack of information and noob question, please guide me.

Regards

Can you hit CTRL + ALT + F1 and get to a console screen? If so, that means your graphics driver isn't installed properly. If you log in and then become the root user, you can run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. You'll get a text driven menu system to walk you through setting up the graphical interface. When it asks you what video driver to use, for now select VESA (this is the basic video driver that ships with every linux distro). Once you get that up and running, we can work on getting a better driver going.

It should have looked something like this.

Also, what type of install did you do? It's possible that you didn't install X, but just did a base install with no graphical desktop.

boot to black screen

Took me a while to figure out I was trying to install a 64 bit version on a 32 bit system. Just a loose nut on the keyboard.
