Have you tried a "yum" search ?
Code:
su -
yum search gedit
there should be a list of things

BUT
fedora 16 will hit it's end of life in just over one month Feb. 08 2013
---- time to UPGRADE----
it is time you install fedora 17 or after Jan. 08 2013 fedora 18

fedora has a VERY short life span( 13 months) and releases a new, and often, very different new version every 6 months.
