[Debian] Attached HDD; OS will not boot, loads grub rescue.

Hey,

My initial install of Debian's had both hard drives in RAID 1 have bad sectors, both drives failing, so I started a fresh install with, with the same RAID 1 set up.

I plug in one of the spare drives and the OS will not boot with it attached.

Grub loads and then:
error: disk missing

Proceeds to grub rescue.

I've tried searching for guides on finding the right drive and manually booting it but nothing very clear.

set rot=md/0 (which is correct) so I'm unsure why it cannot find it /boot/grub and boot.

Basically all I want to do as attached this spare drive and recover the data from it.

I dont know exactly how raid works but i believe there is the 1st, 2nd and so on disks(tell me if im wrong) but did you remove the 1st disk and did you add an blank dist in its place? Maybe that is the case. I hope this helps.

Regards

No.

Both drives in RAID 1 are present. I just want to mount another partition from another drive.

I plug in the SATA drive and the system doesn't boot. Unplug it and the system boots fine.
