Question [33.079464] kernal panic-not syncing


ok I have just bought a linux ubuntu os and upon trying to install it i get a error saying [ 33.079464] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (1,0) under that is this [ 33.079521] I know nothing about linux and i have done nothing to try to fix this because well I dont have a clue can someone help please???

Is it possible to choose another kernel during the process of ubuntu installation (i'm not familiar with ubuntu...). If there is no such option, i suggest you switch to another distro (or even to another version of ubuntu).

Before you jump off a bridge and go with Plan B, can you boot into Ubuntu with the Live CD? Or is it only a problem after you install?
