zebra - ripd

I have just started using the zebra software. I'm having a little trouble with ripd. From everything I've read, I've set everything up correctly, but I can't get two routers talking rip to acknowledge one another. With ethereal, I have seen that the only time either rip daemon puts anything on the wire is when it first starts up. All subsequent broadcasts are recorded in the log file, but they never show up on ethereal as having really been sent.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. To make things a little more complicated, my routers actually only have one real nic....but 2 additional virtual interfaces....so I have
eth0
eth0:1
eth0:2
So it may be the virtual interfaces confusing zebra....
Any help would be appreciated...
