xset: unable to open display "mycomputer.mynetwork:0.0"

Hi

My error ocure when i try to login in startx
The error is:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
_X11TransSocketINETConnect: Can't get address for <oldmycomputer.oldmynetwork>
xset: unable to open display "oldmycomputer.oldmynetwork:0.0"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My linux version is RHEL 3.0

I was trying to set a new IP adress and new host name for my server and in Network Configuration (or something like this) window i made a few steps:
1. i changed the IP address for my ethernet device
2. i removed the host from hosts tab

My question is how can i set hostname with an IP address and an alias from command line?

Thanks in advance

The information is written to the file '/etc/hosts'. You should have entries that look like:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
123.45.67.89 oldmycomputer.oldmynetwork oldmycomputer

Replace "123.45.67.89" with your machine's IP address.

You can use any editor you want to modify the file (like vi).
