as a newbie and trying to learn I have searched around and read quite a few web pages concerning my problem and still cant seem to get working or understand what I have to do so hopefully u guys can help here goes!
I got my xbox 360 for xmas and have been dual booting windows xp with suse 10.2, I then decided everything I can do on windows I can do in suse which up to a point I can, until I tried to get my xbox live working through my suse box (which has to be as people still use the PC while i am on live and i cant afford a router! due to gettign married in 3 weeks).
I have a crossover cable running from my xbox to my PC into eth0 and another cable from my cable modem into my otha NIC eth1, now i have seen a couple of guides and alot of them are to do with wireless which i dont have.. I have also tried two other guides which just didnt work at all... maybe someone can give me a straight forward step by step guide and I can get rid of windows xp yet again!!
I do hope u guys can help and sorry if i havent give enough info any help would be appreciated thanks in advance
Here is a script that will get your linux box routing... xbox 360 in eth1 router in eth0. All you have to do is set up the XBox. I assume you can give the xbox 360 static network details anyway..let me know if not.
okay right i have somehow managed to get my xbox 360 to get its IP address and now i have problems with the dns settigns on my xbox what settings do i input as i followed a guide on ehre and it says enter your routers ip address as the dns IP which i have tried .. i think and it still says failed so i have come so far again.. and getting frustrated lol
not being funny but how do i do that! see this is why people stick to windows not being funny i think SuSE is great i think ms suck.s ass but people know they can use windows... with little problems .. i do like a problem upto a point where i can cry lol but come on people help me get ms xbox 360 routing through my SuSE system! pleassssseeeee
I have managed to get my SuSE box routing, my Xbox 360 gets an IP and everything works..(sort of)
I did this by following a guide on how to set up SuSE 10 as a router here : http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/16579.html worked perfectly... but here is the problem I now face under NAT my xbox 360 says moderate which means that I wont be able to play some games, wont be able to connect with alot of users and wont be able to chat with them etc etc so I need it to be open .. now i have searched the web and on a certain site it says ports 88 (UDP), 3074 (UDP), and 3074 (TCP). have to be open, I have opened these using SuSEs yast firewall but to no avail didnt make any difference now, if i cant get this working this way I will have to revert to an old way in which I tried and got no where and fast which is http://www.daishar.com/blog/archives...60_live_a.html
as this I couldnt even get the said libupnp-1.2.1 and linuxigd installed nevermind working. thanks for you patience and time everyone! any help appreciated cheers
Okay got it working !! yayaya Now linux is annoying at times but certainly pleasing when all your effort and time comes together and you work the problems out!
here goes as described above i used the link to get the dchp working then i followed another guide http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/16709.html regarding port forwarding and got it working i am not sure if this is secure but ur opinion would be greatly appreciated and i thought i would describe what i did for any other users who found this problem! thanks guys and info on the security would be great thanks
okay forgot to say i give the dchp server the option of only giving out one IP in effect making it static
