X-windows server/client?

I read somewhere that X-windows as used by KDE and Gnome is based on a client/server setup. I was wondering if it's possible to connect to my X-server remotely with another computer. Effectively running applications on the server but displaying them on a client.

My setup :
- Mandrake linux server. This computer has it's own static IP connecting to the internet and is hosting a website using apache which is it's main task.
- Windows XP. My desktop. I wish to run an X-client on this machine to use a GUI for administating the server. Right now I use telnet but sometimes a GUI is nice. Also has a static IP for internet connection.
- Linux terminal. Not finished yet but I want to run a 'Lite' linux installation on this one and also run an X-client mainly for web-browsing and emailing. This machine has a cyrix 133mhz CPU and only 512MB HD. Can have a static IP but may also use DHCP whatever is easier.
All these computers are connected via LAN

I'd like to know how to set things up for this to work and if it's actually possible. Please keep in mind I'm relatively new to linux so try to use some english inbetween the 'code'

This will be pretty trivial between the two linux boxes...

From the client type: xhost +
Then telnet to the server, login and type: export DISPLAY=<ip of client>:0.0
Then just run whatever X application you want. viola, it shows up on the client.

On the windoze machine, this isn't even possible without special software. However, there's a program called VNC that does a great job of this for you, and the best part.. it's free

If you have Mandrake 8.1, you probably already have it installed on the server. If not, go to http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/ for the server software to run on the linux machine as well as the windoze viewer program to access the server.

If you do choose to use VNC (and I highly recommend it), setup a new user on the linux server soley for this purpose and run it as that user.

Good luck.
