X -query setup

I'm trying to get this command to work
Code:
X -query 192.168.0.254 :1
so tha I can connect remotely to GUI desktop on the server.

I've edited gdm.conf on the server so that the relevant parts are
Code:
[xdmcp]
Enable=True
[servers]
0=Standard
1=Standard
is there anything else i should do?

Currently when I run the command it seems to try to connect and I am left with a black screen with a little cross (X) mouse cursor, but it does not progress to the GDM login screen.

Both the server and the Client machine are running FC2.
