wvdial and kppp connect but no internet

I have openSUSE 11.1 on a gateway e 6100. with a best data external 92v serial modem connected. I have used this modem flawlessly on Windows, and fedora core. After installing openSUSE I setup my connection through wvdialconf, then manually entered my phone number, username, and password. Then wvdial dials correctly, I hear my modem dial and hear static when I pick up the phone, but firefox cannot connect to the Internet. I've used kppp with the same information (phone number, username, and password), gotten the same symptoms (dialing noise and static on the phone line) but the same problem with no connection. There is no Internet from firefox or konquer. Thanks for any advice.

Dial up?
It is probably /etc/resolv.conf. Set yours to read

search your_isp.net opendns.org
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

That might fix it. When you dial up, check it again. Some dialup scripts change it.
