I tried I still am having the same issue, i just dont get the error message
Ok. Can you describe your problem again. As I understood, you can't scan APs, and when you are connected to your AP, you unable to do anything. Is it right?
For a time I was unable to find very many AP's, most importantly mine. After changing a setting on my Ap to g only I was then able to find my ap. I can currently associate with it, for testing I have turned off all security on the ap. I can not however get a dhcp addres. I am currently "git"ing the most current version of the rt2800usb driver(kernel module)(i am already running a very new version of the kernel). Using windows I have tested to make sure there is no hardware problem because I have connected to the AP and received an ip address. I also have turned on full debugging in rt2800usb device .
First, try to enable as many bands as it possible to work at the same time. It will give your card opportunity to choose. Chang most settings to AUTO state. Reboot it. Sometime it is good idea to RESET it completely.
Second, as I've understood from other posts, very important to use specific driver with specific kernel. They have to match each other.

I am not using a gui, to do anything, I am using iwconfig, so as far as changing settings, can you be more specific ? And what do you mean by enable as many bands as possible ?

Yes, the module should match the kernel, I have module version support so it is possible for me to load modules from other kernels, however up until now I have been using the in tree kernel module for the rt2800usb.
In trying to insmod the git version of rt2800usb.ko, the module failed. I am building the latest kernel (as the kernel I was using was a few versions behind ) to test the new rt2800usb.ko on that.

The AP is not the issue here, because I am able to connect to the ap with this same card using a diffrent O.S. Allowing b,g, n dose NOT show the ap in iwlist wlan0 scanning, while g mode only DOSE show the ap.

I got a hold of my gfs laptop and I am getting the same problems I was having with usb wireless card with her onboard(which she was just using this afternoon)
