WPC11 Redhat 8.0 Issue!

I just bought a Toshiba 1905-s301 laptop. And I run linux redhat 8.0 on it. And I use a linksys wireless WPC11 pc card that doesn't seem to be working. In the network config it says "Active" as in its working, but when I try to use it with internet apps, it doesn't work. And there is something like a control panel thing I found that I went to and it tells everything on the computer kind of like windows device manager, And when I goto PCMCIA slots it says unsupported card. I need help I want to be able to use wireless with laptop someone please help! =(.

What version of the WPC11? if its v.3 or 2.5 there's a hack to get it to work that we've sorted out around here. Search by "WPC11 v.3" here and you should pull up the thread. Post back if you can't find it.

Here's a mention of it:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ht=wpc11+patch

He mentions patching the hermes.conf file, but you won't have one, so just add this into /etc/pcmcia/config

card "Instant Wireless Network PC Card"
manfid 0x0274,0x1613
bind "orinoco_cs"

That should do it, if it goes bonk again, try the command:

cardctl ident

and post what it says up here.

I added that and saved it and still didn't work. When I unplug card from laptop and plug back in I only get 1 beep.

Its time to make certain its the same card, what's the output of:

/sbin/cardctl ident

Socket 0:
Product info: "The Liknksys Group, Inc.", "Instant Wireless Network PC Card", "ISL37300P", "RevA"
manfid: 0x0274, 0x1613
function: 6 (network)
Socket 1:
no product info available.

-What it says, I think it is not working because I am currently running the Kernel-2.4.18-14.

On my toshiba 1905-s301 laptop I did install Lilo and it doesn't even work or show up. So when I want to use linux I have to put a floppy in and press f12 and boot linux from the floppy disk. So pretty much I turn on laptop it just goes into windows unless I scan the floppy drive and boot linux from a floppy.. so I don't know how to change to get the newest kernel running..

finegan 01-15-2003 05:30 PM

First fixing Lilo, check to see if there is a file called /etc/lilo.conf, if there is, post it here.

Problem 2, its detecting pcmcia core, but I think RH built that straight into the kernel. orinoco_cs is of course a module, but if you have anything loaded at all under /sbin/lsmod then its finding the modules directory tree so the kernel won't be an issue. The newest RH RPM'ed kernel wouldn't matter, they're all builds of 2.4.18, so you would just be getting an exact copy of orinoco v0.11b. The ident matches the cardinfo, if you have modules under lsmod, post back the last 20 or so lines of a dmesg, specifically right after you insert the card. This may be less of a wireless issue and more of a pcmcia is acting funky issue.
