WOL technology requires a MAC addressed packet with special instructions to power on the machine correct?

You couldn't setup a gimp way to power on a machine through a gimpy tcp/ip request?

ya i imagined as much, i use it for my network..

But recently I've been put in a tight spot for electricity, lol.

And I need to atleast cut the power to my nix* machines cpu, to save heat, to stop the damn a/c from kicking on.

Can't relocate the machine either.

I need a ghetto way to set a cpu power kiler/waker. Don't think its possible thou.

It should work fine so longs as your card and MB supports WoL. Are you having problems with the tools there? Are you trying to make it automatic with the temperature?

more or less I'm just trying to make it simplier than having to use a program to send out the wol command.

It would be a lot easier if there was an option to just cut the cpu voltage, but kick it back on with a normal tcp request.

The machine is acting as a router. But it produces too much heat in the offtime hours when no ones home, or using it, and it just kicks our ac.

And to boot, its in an apartment, so I can't relocate the termostat.

Is there a way I can do this without 'wol' ?

I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to write a GUI for one of the existing programs. That should save some work.
