Wireless network disconnects before unmounting network shares-shutdown problem

I'm using Linux Mint 10.
It seems that gnome stops the wireless network when it exits but before the shutdown scripts in /rtc/rc0.d run. This sometimes causes problems with unmounting network shares (in particular cifs shares) and can cause shutdown to fail with constant CIFS VFS errors.
Is this a known bug?
Are there any workarounds?

My assumptions is that since there is no specific cifs unmount script the shares are not being unmounted until unmountfs is run which is after networking has stopped. It would be easy to add your own shutdown script.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
The problem is that the wireless network is disconnected when gnome exits which seems to be before the shutdown scripts in /etc/rc6.d or /etc/rc0.d so by the time unmountnfs runs there is no network. Making it run earlier or adding a separate cifs unmount script in rc6.d doesn't help because all these seem to run after gnome has disconnected the wireless network.
