Wireless adapter interface renamed to long string instead of wlan0

I have not been able to find any hints for solving this. I upgraded from Debian "Jessie" (kernel 3.16) to "Stretch" (kernel 4.2). Wireless adapters worked fine and were assigned wlan0 or wlan1 on "Jessie". All firmware is loaded and updated.

Now, on "Stretch", instead of wlan0 the interface gets assigned 'wlxf62f720g73kw' so ifconfig doesn't work. I've borrowed others' adapters and every one of them gets assigned a different hash string like that.

Any ideas?

Thumbs up

Thank you.

I fixed the issue by adding a line in /etc/default/grub
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="net.ifnames=0"
