Wired Ethernet disconnect every time random
Hi I have this configuration:
MSI X370 Carbon Pro with ethernet controller Intel Gigabit I211 S.O Mint 18.3 with Kernel LInux 4.10.0-38-generic X86_64 I tried many linux distribution and each other do the same thing: disconnect ethernet every time random(more frequently when I open pages in the firefox browser) I Post here some output result: sudo lshw -C network Code:
*-network lspci Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Device 1450 Code:
sudo ethtool -s enp5s0 speed 100 duplex full |
Can you provide some of the detail about your IP and higher level interface settings?
I am interested in the routing, DNS/ name resolution, and firewall settings. [[nitpick on]]I am confused about your use of the term "random". If you can take action that triggers or accelerates the event, it is not actually random. If you mean that there is no clear cause that you can detect, that has meaning but does not imply random.[[nitpick off]] |

Yes all here: IP Code:
/etc/network/interfaces Code:
# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) /etc/resolv.conf Code:
I mean that: while I browse on Internet every time random the ethernet connection go down and after some second come back online. |
1. How do you know that the ethernet connection goes down? What evidence do you observe that would support this?
2. What lives on the address 127.0.1.1? Are you sure that there is a service there that serves DNS? (had that address been 127.0.0.1 I might suspect DNSMASQ or something like it was running on your box and caching nameserver data, but 127.0.1.1 is not listed as an address for any interface on your box. |
Soon I'll upload a video so I'm as clear as possible about what happens
EDIT: look ---> https://youtu.be/7PUEdQjy0Sc Go to minute 2.00 I do not understand but it seems that it only happens when I use various browsers or chromium (and I do not use proxy)or maybe it's a coincidence |

Frankly, it is highly unlikely that a dropped or intermittent ethernet connection is a software problem. (I won't say impossible, because the computer might hear me and decide to prove me wrong.)
Even if you are confident it's software-related, you should test the cables and the cable jacks all the way back to the router just to rule out the possibility that it's hardware, because, if it is hardware, not amount of tinkering with software will fix it. |

Is your IP Address static or DHCP? If DHCP what device is the DHCP server? Next question is if you are using DHCP what is the lease time?

On my router the IP-MAC address association has been made and therefore the machine always receives the same IP. |
Then, I report updates: even if my router has the IP-MAC address association and always delivers the same IP to my machine, I tried to set the static IP address via software on the linux PC in this way:
auto enp30s0 iface enp30s0 inet static address 192.168.1.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 Result: Now it seems to be much better, but it is absurd. It no longer appears to me that the ethernet controller has disconnected and this is good at last, pinging to different sites is always okay, never a negative response and zero packets lost. But sometimes on the browser (I'm using chromium) it seems that there is no internet connection. |
I have updates: ethernet is now perfect, but the problem I've identified is DNS
I put in /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4 They work, but occasionally randomly when I'm on the browser I get "unable to resolve host" and then after a few seconds everything works again and normally. |
Yeah, your network still has issues. By setting a static IP Address you have solved the DHCP issue, which is still going on, but you sometimes cannot resolve hosts. Reason for you not being able to resolve host is because you are still losing your internet connection. Have you talked to your service provider yet?
Check this by running a continuous ping to a couple of different sites and when you cannot resolve check your pings and see if anything dropped. |

then, I repeat, my connection with the service provider is excellent. I also have Windows on the same machine and there are no problems. |
