WinXP/Linux

Hello all, hope everythings going good.

I've connected my winxp laptop and my Linux laptop together. They are both connected to my hub, and they can ping each other, and i mounted the winxp share drives on my linux box wit samba. I was just wondering how could mount the drives on my linux box so i can read them on my XP box? Cheers

open up your webbrowser and type in the address bar:

Code:
http://localhost:901
that should bring you into swat (if you have it running, depending on the distro, it may or may not be running at boot) after you've entered root for the username and your root password for the password. add your shares by clicking the Shares link.

in the text box enter a name for the share and click the create share button. add the file/file_path/directory/directory_path you want to share and whether you want to allow guest access or user access. when you're satisfied with the setup, click the commit changes button.

when your done, i don't know if you need to do this, but i do, restart smbd and nmbd. then, definately restart lisa. you should then be able to check your lan browser to see if it worked. (it should ).

there maybe other ways of setting up shared linux directories depending on distro, but this is how i've been setting up shared linux directories.

hopefully i haven't misinterpreted your question.

Maks,

As megaspaz has said you can use Swat. Some people prefer to use a text editor because it gives them greater control over Samba. It also allows them to understand what is going on behind the scenes.

Swat works but it kind of does all the work for you. Many people want to understand the nitty gritty details. At any rate, you have options.

When you install Samba, it creates a file called smb.conf. This is the Samba configuration file. You can find it by opening up a command line and typing the following:

cd /
find -name smb.conf.

Post the smb.conf in the forum and we can configure it.
