hahaha, wheeee! I'm jumping for joy right now! I've been trying this for a year now (on and off of course). Finally Gentoo forces me to learn what I'm doing and gives me a better chance to figure it all out.

You kept asking me to check /var/log/cups, sorry, I was trying it as root, which gave me different files than I was able to see as myself. when I tried it as my normal user, I was able to see that I needed to add raw to the print command. There were a few other problems with actually seeing the printer but this was the last and final step.

Finally linux does *everything* I want it to!

Congrats! It's always a struggle to get Samba up and running. Now share your knowledge! There's lots of posts on these forums struggling through Samba. Glad I could help
