Windows printer on network issues.
Hi,
I have a Canon MP 730 multifunction printer installed on a windows box on my network. It is configured to be shared, and is frequently used by other windows computers on the network. It installs through the add printer wizard and it is seen in a list bla bla bla the wonders of guis...
Anyway, my problem is that its not so simple on linux. I've been trying to install it through the system-config-printer gui, but to no avail.
I assume that its a SMB network printer, and when i try to search for it, the network name (SOMERVILLE) comes up, but when i try to expand it, nothing happens. (on windows it picks up a few computers and the printer). I then have the option of specifying it, but I have no idea what to put in the boxes: Workgroup (i'm guessing SOMERVILLE), server (FAMILY the printer pc), share, username, password.
Could anyone help me?
Thanks.
PS: sometimes i get asked for a password and username when i browse the samba network. on windows, no passwords are asked for... how do i get around this?
thanks a lot.
chris.
