Windows installation via PXE from Linux Server


Hi Guys

I am in need to install windows on various clients/machines/laptops from GNU/Linux. I have heard about, it is possible through PXE.I dont know which direction i should start my mission. Any idea please?

What i need is.(do and do not)

1. I need various windows installation may be XP/vista/
2 Don't want to install from CD/DVD
3. Client may be Laptop/Desktop
4 To setup only GNU/Linux server NOT Windows server

clonezilla should fill all your requirements.

You would first need to manually install windows on a machine of the hardware type in question then run MS Sysprep on the machine, and clone it to the server. then you could push that image out to multiple machines at once.

hi

Thanks for help. The first two links are related to Microsoft. Coz i am intertested to setup /GNU/linux server so the last FOG link is great.

it is perfect. But first of all I have to setup PXE, dhcp server

actually the second and third links are MS the First and Fourth Links are Linux..


The reason I posted the Second and Third links is for an application from Microsoft that you MUST run on a system if you plan to image it to other machines. The sysprep application rips out the Machine SID, machine name, and several other settings from Windows so you do not end up with multiple Windows PC's on your network with Identical Machine SIDs.. that would cause issues for sure..

you should read those links and understand what sysprep does if you plan to image machines.
