Windows & linux coexisting on same LAN

Hello All, I want to create a file server with Mandrake 9.2B1 (i'd like to check it out.)

My current network setup is 4 separate computers, 3 running differernt outdated linux distros, and 1 running Windows XP. I'd like to upgrade one of the outdated PCs to Mandrake 9.2B1 for use as a file server

How on earth do I get my windows PC to talk to my Linux one? Do I have to setup an FTP? That seems kind of backwards.

Thanks A lot.

Another option for the server browsing...use LISa...you set it up in the control center under internet and network. After that you should be able to use the network server app or maybe LinNeighborhood. I'm not sure if you have to enter the samba stuff to VIEW the network...but...if you're going to be SHARING the hard drive to other computers, you will need to set up the smb.conf.
