Windows 98 not allow to login Fedora 11 SMB File sharing folder.
I install Fedora 11 for file sharing from windows client Win 95/98, Win xp & xp home. I can login from win xp & xp home to access folder but I can't login from win 95/98 to access folder. I got the error message... "The domain password supplied is not correct or access to your logon has been denied".
from win 95/98 Desktop computers.
swissp
you do know that fedora 11 has is a DEAD version
It has been unsupported for the last 6 months since it hit it's END OF LIFE
there is ONLY 13 months of support for any given version of fedora
there have been NO updates made for it and there will NEVER be any
do not use a dead version!!!
the current is fedora 14
please install that and KEEP up to date.
as to windows 95 ???
a 16 bit OS ???
i take it the passwords are bigger and longer than a 16 bit os can handle.
By default, Win9x machines only offer the LANMAN hash when trying to authenticate to a Samba server. Recent versions of Samba do not allow the LANMAN authentication mechanism by default.
You can enable Samba to offer and accept the LANMAN hash with 'client lanman auth = yes' and 'lanman auth = yes' in the Global section of smb.conf.
If you do this, then you will probably need to rebuild the Samba password backend i.e. delete and recreate users. In my experience, the LANMAN hash is not added to the password backend unless the lanman auth =yes has been set in smb.conf.
