Windows 7 - 2 Synologies: I'll gladly contribute a good bottle of wine to a guru :-)

G'day to you all :)

I will explain in short to avoid wasting your time and in case a moderator deems my post not allowed/violation of rules/...

I have 4 computers with Windows 7. I have two Synology NAS-systems. I need to set up a structure for replication between the computers and the NAS-systems. To avoid long and cumbersome operations on a daily basis I am extremely charmed by the logic of Rsync (for example, my MS Outlook.pst is 2,5 GB, it takes a long time to copy this to my NAS). I know it should work from within Cygwin.

Now for the embarassing part: I have had a strong/severe accident (been attacked by a serious dog (60 kg) that I tried to rescue from the animal shelter). Serious brain damage done due to the clash of my head. I can not concentrate anymore, been in and out of five hospitals for months, but they have no clue what is going on. I have been struggling for 2 weeks to try and understand the texts I've read, but currently, I can't.

So I am looking for somebody who would be so kind to help me out. I am by no means a 'cheap person', I don't expect free favors. So I am more than willing to compensate anybody who wants to help me set up this situation.

For now I'll leave it at this, to not waste too many people's time and to see if I am not banned or something for violating a rule. If somebody who is a 'guru' on rsync and understands how to set this up reliable under W7/Cygwin responds I'll gladly and thankfully elaborate on my needs in a little bit more detail.

To close, if I did break any rules I apologize sincerely in advance.

Thank you,

Bye,

If you are trying to back up Windows 7, have you considered it's native backup program? Also one could install ntbackup but I'd just go with images. The image Windows 7 creates is a virtual machine. It is just about as compact and fast as it could be.

Deltacopy and versions of rsync for windows may be the most easy way if you prefer rsync on windows.

Thank you for your replies :-)

It's not about imaging, I have software for that. It is about the data. "Stupid" programs like MS Backup simply back up all data again and again and again. The example of MS Outlook *.pst; it is 2,5 GB, MS Backup-alike programs will copy the same 2,5 GB multiple times a day, sucking up bandwith on my LAN and sucking op disk space on my NAS. Intelligent programs, like Rsync, will only copy the deltas.

I tried deltacopy but can't work with it; it doesn't allow me to sync with a subdirectory on the NAS (within Synology there is a mandatory directory /homes/user1, Deltacopy doesn't see /.../user1, only /homes.

And there aren't too many other rsync programs for Windows that do better (I think I tried them all), so my conclusion is I have to do this with a batch file and rsync.exe. And there I need some help.

Thanks again :-)
