Win98/RH 9 Internet Conectivity Problem
Hi people ,
I have a network problem that is really starting to bug me.
I have 2 dual boot boxes both networked together with a crossover cable and one of them is used to connect to the internet by a dial-up modem.
Boxes :
1) Windows 98 / Fedora Core 2 box
2) Windows 98 / RH 9 box + Modem
I have all of the networking connectivity working for everything for both ways in whatever configuration I use , NFS , samba , internet connection with FC 2 & RH 9 , telnet , ssh ..... etc all except for 1 problem.
The problem is that if I boot up the RH 9 box and connect to the internet to use it as a router for the Windows 98 box , I can't get any internet connectivity from the Windows 98 box.
I have tried everything , messed about a lot with the gateway address , IP address , and DNS addresses on the Windows 98 box , so far I haven't had any success.
With this configuration of Window 98 -> RH 9 + modem , I can do all network connectivity , ping ,telnet , use samba ..... etc , but I just can not get Internet Explorer or Outlook Express to work.
I have iptables and masquerading / forwarding set up on the RH 9 box and it works well while connecting with FC 2 and I have both machines set up with the same IP address regardless of what OS I am using , the IP addresses which come from using the M$ ICS setup on the Windows 98 /RH 9 box with IP addresses of 192.168.0.1 for the box with the modem and the other box has the address of 192.168.0.2 .
At the moment of writing this article , I am using the FC 2 box connecting to the internet through the Windows 98 box without any problems.
Has anybody got any suggestions of why I can't get IE /OE on the Windows 98 box - > RH 9 box to connect to the internet ?
Thanks.
