win to lin-lin to win

Hi all,

I am currently working on a project that requires me to connect to a friends pc via the internet.

I need to be able to control his pc and he needs to be able to control mine.

This is besides protected folders etc.

I am running RH 9.0 and and not sure what I need to do this.
Someone told me vnc and someone else said samba.

If it helps I have win4lin installed on my system.

Thanks
Aaron

You can use VNC if you want to just control and monitor each other's system. if you want to exchange files, you can use ftp.

Thanks for the swift reply,
Is there a way to make his or my computer appear like another dir on my computer.

I am wondering about collaboration. Like viewing the same doc and watching the other modify it.
How would we communicate (icq??)

what would I need to get vnc working on both systems???

Thanks
Aaron
ps what does affero do???

Yes, you would require VNC server running.

an alternate solution is your friend can use ssh to connect to your system. He can use Putty which is a free ssh client for Windows. If I am not wrong, putty also allows for secure file transfers too. But this control will be more command line.

Thanks,
What will he need with VNC, is there a VNC client/server for win???

I will install vnc on my sytem and start reading the docs..

My friend is a win junkie and command line scares him.
I guess I will start with vnc and icq or ftp as a means of file transfer, unless someone else has an all in one seamless solution.
Thanks
again
