Question why my uclinux ping response time is so long ???

My development environment is

uclinux : kernel 2.4.22
CPU: s3c2510 (ARM9)

When I executed command "ping 127.0.0.1" ,the response time is about 1 ms, and I ping the network PC , the response time is about 30ms, I don't know why, is this the flaw of uclinux os? or my system question? how can I accelerate the network speed?

I thinks the resonable response time should be less than 1ms while ping network PC, while ping loopback interface, the resonable response time should less then 0.1ms.

Anders,

When you ping 127.0.0.1 the event occurs entirely within your computer. When you ping the network PC you send a message across a cable to the network PC and it sends the response back across that cable. Cabkes are far slower than CPUs and memory so sending a message across a cable should be much slower than sending a message entirely within your computer.

Hi,thanks for your reply, I see the difference of ping localhost and ping network PC, but I don't know why my ucLinux response time is so long, ping network PC is about 30ms, this time is so slow, I think 1ms is the resonable time, could anybody analyse this for me ? does ucLinux progress management and network stack is so slow? or something wrong in my system?

Thanks

Anders,
