Question Why is TMDNS making my system run so slowly?

Hi, I'm a noob who for the last few days has been puzzled over why my box running Mandrake 9.2 loaded applications so slowly sometimes, even when the HD wasn't being accessed. Host resolution also used to take a while from any browser. Sometimes it would take around 4 seconds to load KCalc, and 15 seconds to load Mozilla. The weird thing was the load times would fluctuate. Sometimes apps would load up almost instantly and sometimes the system would just crawl. I've discovered the culprit: tmdns. When I have it turned off, apps load up just as fast as they do in WinXP...no more watching the hourglass for me. Does anybody know why tmdns can have such an effect on my system? Is this just my unique experience or is it a common one? What's tmdns for anyway? So far I haven't found any negative side effect from having it turned off. But it would be nice to know more about it. Thanks in advance.
