Why can't I ping anyone?

Hey,

I'm on a Linux box connecting to a Windows based network. I have successfully connected via a wireless router. I've manually configured everything according to all of the settings on the router. I know what computers are on the network, however, when I try to ping one it times out. I can successfully browse the internet, log into the router but cannot ping any of the other computers. Any idea why this might be?

I'm using Fedora 7 and the other computers on the network are running Windows XP.

Regards,

Brandon

edit: I know their IPs as well. They're setup as static IPs in XP. I've even tried IP scanners and it can only find the router and my computer. I've also tried this in XP, same problem. This has to be some stupid problem staring my right in the face and I can't figure it out. Maybe it's settings on the router? It's a Linksys 54WRTG. Firmware 1.0.6.

WHAT have you configured? We can't read minds here.

Can you ping your router? Can you ping google.ca, or it's IP address?

Can you windows boxes ping the router? Can they ping the Linux box?

I thought I made it pretty clear. I've configured my wireless adapter to connect my home network. I've setup my IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS server and alternate DNS server. I am able to ping my router. I can also log into my router (I don't think you can do one without the other, right?). I can ping myself. I'm able to log on the internet, browse sites freely and I can ping websites from F7 and XP. I have the same problem on both OS's.

Regards,

Brandon

edit: Windows boxes can ping the router as well, they can also log into it. I'm in the states, so I just pinged google.com, not google.ca, but I can do it. Haven't tried to ping the Linux box from a Windows box.

Is the firewall on the XP box allowing ICMP incoming echo requests?

How did you setup you network? Is FC7 and XP boxes in the same network?Seems that there is something wrong with your router settings. Can XP users ping each other? Is your PC dual boot?If yes,you can give a shot.

You STILL haven't made it clear.

WHAT did you configure... what values did you use? Is your IP 192.168.0.2 and your gateway 10.0.0.1? Did you configure your wireless adapter by waving a chicken carcass over it?

:)

So, what happens when you DO try to ping the Linux box from a Windows box? Also, can the Windows boxes ping each other?

...also, as mentioned, XP firewall may not be set to allow ping requests.
